Canada’s York University will host a discussion titled ‘Confronting Scholasticide’ on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in room HNE 140. The discussion will be led by Dr. Ahmed Abu Shaban, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at Al Azhar University Gaza.

Dr. Abu Shaban will examine the impact of Israel’s destruction of Palestinian education and killings of the educators, exploring how the phenomenon of ‘scholasticide’ disrupts educational institutions across Gaza. He will draw from firsthand experiences, and also highlight ways that global academic communities can respond to the scholasticide and support Palestinian institutions of higher learning.

The event will be moderated by York University’s Dr. Anna Zalik, with Dr. Stefan Kipfer, Dr. Pablo Idahosa, and Dr. Ratiba Hadj-Moussa serving as discussants.
