UN sets November 30, 2024 deadline for sending inputs on the occupied Palestinian territory to the Human Rights Council 58th session

Ms. Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, has issued a call for inputs for the Human Rights Council’s 58th session. This call has put a particular emphasis on ‘how the private sector is linked to, invests in and contributes to Israel’s unlawful occupation, racial segregation and apartheid regime in the oPt and the military/security industry underpinning it.

The deadline for sending out an input document is November 30, 2024; the email address on which the input has to be sent is the following: hrc-sr-opt@un.org

The email must carry the following subject line: ‘Input to the HRC 58 report’.

Not to exceed 3000 words, the document can be in English, Arabic, French, Italian, or Spanish; it should be in Word, Portable Document Format (PDF), or Excel.

While the core document must not exceed 3000 words, there is an allowance in the call for annexures: ‘Any additional materials such as summaries of, and hyperlinks to, relevant documents, statistical data, reports, articles, books, public statements, organizational and state pronouncements may be annexed to the submission.’

The full call—which includes a list of ‘Key questions and types of inputs/comments sought’—can be accessed here as a pdf.

Born and brought up in Italy, Ms. Albanese is the first woman to serve as the ‘Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967’; she assumed her 3-year position on May 1, 2022. She is the author of the book Palestinian Refugees in International Law (Oxford University Press, 2020).
